Seven-Year Veteran Pitcher Signing In Japan


He's heading back to Japan.

Pitcher Robert Gsellman has signed a one-year contract with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball.

After spending the last 12 years in affiliated ball, Gsellman will head to Japan to continue his baseball career.

Gsellman was most recently a member of the Chicago Cubs organization. This past season, he appeared in 15.1 innings for the team, recording a 4.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and nine strikeouts across eight relief appearances. 

For his career, spanning seven seasons, the twenty-nine-year-old holds a 4.60 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 289 strikeouts over 366 innings of work. Gsellman spent the first six seasons of his career with the New York Mets before joining the Cubs this past season.
