Philadelphia Phillies Re-Sign Pitcher

The Philadelphia Phillies have re-signed Sam Coonrod to a one-year, $775,000 contract - avoiding arbitration.

Coonrod appeared in just 12 games this season for the Phillies due to a shoulder strain, where he sported a high 7.82 ERA. His injury trouble certainly can be blamed for this, and he will be aiming to bounce back when fully healthy in 2023. When noting that he had a decent 4.04 ERA in 22 games with the Phillies in 2021, there's reason to believe he can rebound.

Overall, there's no harm in signing Coonrod to this new deal. If he finds his old form, it certainly would be big for the Phillies, but if not, his salary does not break the bank whatsoever.
