MLB Rumors: Guardians Ace Not Going Anywhere

The Cleveland Guardians have made a habit in recent seasons of trading ace starting pitchers while still in their prime. That was being talked about again on the Hot Stove circuit, as Shane Bieber's name was out there as potential trade bait. But a new report from MLB Insider says Bieber isn't going anywhere.

President of baseball operations Chris Antonetti says that Bieber will NOT be traded, reports Bowden, and will indeed remain a Guardian in 2023. Bieber still has two years of arbitration before he can become a free agent after the 2024 season.

The former Cy Young Winner (2020) had another strong season in 2022, going 13-8 with a 2.88 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. He also had an incredible 198:36 K/BB ratio, and even added a Gold Glove to his resume. Bieber is a two-time All-Star.

In recent years, Cleveland has traded the likes of Trevor Bauer, Mike Clevinger and Corey Kluber just two years removed from a Cy Young award, off their starting staffs. With the Guardians, however, showing potential to be a true contender again in 2023, that will not happen this time around, at least for now, with Bieber.
