Miguel Cabrera Confirms His Plans For Retirement

This season saw the retirement of one of baseball's all-time legends, Albert Pujols. Now, we have confirmation that 2023 will be the final season for another future Hall of Famer, and one of the greatest hitters of all-time, Miguel Cabrera.

"It feels a little weird to say that," the 39-year-old two-time MVP said. "I thought I'm not going to say never, but I think it's time to say goodbye to baseball."

According to Tigers beat writer Jason Beck of MLB.com, Cabrera did say that he'd like to stay involved in the Tigers organization after his playing days if he could, to help young players.

"I have time to decide, but my goal is to stay in baseball, try to help, because I love baseball," he said.

Cabrera passed the 3,000 hit mark in 2022, his 20th season in the bigs, following his cracking of the 500 home run club at the end of 2021.

He joins a very select list of only 7 players now in major league history to pass both of those milestones. And he's on an even more exclusive list as one of only three players ever to maintain a career .300 average while passing 3,000 hits and 500 home runs.

He has a career .308 average with a .908 OPS and an astounding .384 career on-base percentage. He's a 12-time All-Star with two MVP awards and a World Series ring (from his rookie year in Florida).
