Cubs Top Prospect Undergoes Surgery; Will Not Be Ready For Season Opener

He's the ninth-ranked prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization.

Cubs outfield prospect Alexander Canario underwent surgery last week for a fractured left ankle.

He will also soon undergo a procedure to repair his dislocated left shoulder. Canario suffered both injuries stumbling across the first base bag during a Dominican Winter League game.

Canario doesn't have a return timetable yet, but he for sure will not be ready for the start of the 2023 season.
The talented twenty-two year old had a great season in the minors this year, slashing .252/.343/.556, with 37 home runs, 97 RBIs, 23 stolen bases and 84 runs scored across 125 games.
