Milwaukee Brewers To Discuss Extension With Infielder

The Milwaukee Brewers are seemingly in cost-cutting mode, having sold off Hunter Renfroe last week to the Los Angeles Angels for pitching prospects, and rumored to be soon dumping another player for salary savings. But there appears to be one player that they have no interest in losing, according to a new report.

Shortstop Willy Adames has said that he and the Brewers have discussed the idea of an extension. He told MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy that “we’ve had conversations about that, and I let them know that obviously I want to stay,” Adames said. “I like it here. I just have to do my job and let my agents handle that.”

The 27-year-old says he would even like to finish his career in Milwaukee. "I love it here, I feel good here, I feel comfortable here and I wish I could stay here the rest of my career. But at the end of the day, they have to put everything together and see if we can work something out. Hopefully we can, and we can make it happen. But I’m always willing to hear what they have to say.”

Adames would be set to become a free agent after the 2024 season, but his time in Milwaukee has been great for his career. Things had become stagnant for him in Tampa, and he just couldn't untap his vast potential. It's all come together with the Brew Crew, as he's powered up with a .483 slugging pct., an .808 OPS and slugged 51 home runs with 156 RBIs in 238 games in his year and a half there.
