Pirates Select Contract of Pitcher

He's ready to make his 2022 major league season debut.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have selected the contract of pitcher Nick Mears from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Mears has not pitched in the majors this season after undergoing right elbow surgery back in February. He'll likely get into one of the Pirates' final three regular-season games this week.

The twenty-nine-year-old has posted a 4.80 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 34 strikeouts over 30 innings in the minors this season. In 29 appearances, he's started one game and holds a 2-1 record.

For his career in the major leagues, Mears has registered a 5.08 ERA, 1.73 WHIP, and 30 strikeouts across 28 innings of work. He's made 34 relief appearances.
