Orioles Designate Pitcher for Assignment

The Baltimore Orioles claimed Jake Cave off waivers and, as a result, needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster.

Thus, the club has designated pitcher Jake Reed for assignment.
The twenty-nine-year-old has posted a brutal 7.02 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts over 16.2 innings this season in the majors. In 18 appearances, he's converted one save and held a 2-0 record.

Reed was much better in the minors this season, registering a solid 3.09 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts across 23 innings of work. In 20 games, he's made one start and posted a 2-0 record.

Reed is a former fifth-round pick by the Minnesota Twins in the 2014 MLB Draft.

He'll likely clear waivers and remain with the Orioles as extra pitching depth.
