MLB Rumors: Top 3 Suitors For Trea Turner

The Los Angeles Dodgers are done for another year, and so might be the short LA career of shortstop Trea Turner. He'll be in big demand on the free agent market this offseason. With a combination of power, speed and a premium hit tool, he's in for a massive deal. Aside from Aaron Judge, Turner will likely secure the biggest contract this winter. But who will be signing the checks?

It's another busy shortstop market this winter, with Turner joining Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts and Dansby Swanson.

With the help of Mark Feinsand of mlb.com, here's a look at Turner's Top 3 most likely suitors:

1. Philadelphia Phillies

Turner is said to prefer a return to the East Coast after spending the first seven years of his career with the Washington Nationals. Combine that with the fact that the Phillies are expected to be "aggressive" this winter, as Feinsand notes, and that shortstop will be their top target, and Turner is "atop their wish list". Jean Segura is expected to become a free agent which would allow them to move rookie Bryson Stott to second base to accommodate an incoming shortstop.

2. Los Angeles Dodgers

Despite the aforementioned East Coast bias, Turner has repeatedly said that he's enjoyed his time in LA. But the fly in the ointment here is that sources tell Feinsand that the Dodgers could be gearing up for a big run at Aaron Judge this offseason, which, financially, would likely take them out of the discussion for Turner.

3. San Francisco Giants

The Giants have plenty of money coming off the books, and only $70M in salary committed for 2023. They're another team that's ready to be "aggressive" and spend big this winter. And with Brandon Crawford nearing the end of the line, shortstop is a key need for the future. The Giants would love to steal Turner from the hated rival Dodgers, and just might go that extra mile to get it done.
