Mariners DFA Former 1st-Round Pick

He's been removed from the 40-man roster to make room for pitcher Luke Weaver, who was claimed off waivers on Wednesday.

The Seattle Mariners have designated outfielder Derek Hill for assignment.
It's too bad Hill can't hit because he's a terrific defensive player, however, his lack of offensive upside makes him nothing more than an up-and-down option at this point.

Hill appeared in 31 games for the Detroit Tigers this past season, slashing .229/.270/.289, with one home run, three RBIs, three stolen bases and eight runs scored.

He spent more time in the minors, splitting time between the Tigers and the Mariners farm teams, hitting just .220, with seven home runs, 29 RBIs, nine stolen bases, and 40 runs scored over 236 at-bats.

The twenty-six-year-old is a former 1st-round pick (23rd overall) by the Tigers in the 2014 MLB Draft.
