Boston Red Sox Outfielder Elects Free Agency

Abraham Almonte is now a free agent, as he has rejected an outright assignment by the Boston Red Sox and has instead elected to hit the open market.

Almonte was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last week and has since cleared waivers. Due to the fact that he has over three years of MLB experience, he had the option to become a free agent, and he has now done just that.

Almonte appeared in 15 games for the Red Sox this season, hitting one home run and sporting a .257 batting average. Perhaps his 10 years of MLB experience will allow him to get some attention as a free agent from here.
