Royals Outright Pitcher

The Kansas City Royals designated him for assignment on Friday.

Daniel Mengden has now passed through waivers unclaimed and has been sent outright to Triple-A Omaha.

Mengden was recalled from Triple-A Omaha last Thursday to start against the Chicago White Sox. He allowed five hits and three earned runs over 2.2 innings.

The twenty-nine-year-old has had a very limited opportunity at the major league level this season, throwing seven innings with a 5.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and eight strikeouts. He's started one game and converted one save in five appearances.

Mengden hasn't been much better in the minors, posting a pedestrian 4.55 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 76 strikeouts over 91 innings. He's started 17 games in 21 appearances and has a 6-5 record.

He'll remain with the Royals as organizational depth.
