Pirates Make Slew Of Moves; Rookie DFA'd

The Pittsburgh Pirates have shuffled their roster, making a series of moves that include the designation for assignment of rookie Bligh Madris.

Madris started off hot for the Pirates, hitting .310 with an OPS of .826 in his first 11 games in the majors. He racked up five RBIs in his first three games.

But it's been a struggle for the 26-year-old rookie since then, as his average has dropped to .177 with a .509 OPS in the 39 games he's appeared in for the big league club in two different stints in Pittsburgh this season.

He's performed much better in Triple-A, where he has a .294 average with an .848 OPS. He'll now have to clear waivers before the team can send him back to Indianapolis, leaving open the possibility that another team will be interested enough to claim him.

The Pirates have also called up catcher Zack Collins and right-hander Luis Ortiz, while demoting utilitymanTucupita Marcano.
