Mariners Lose Slugger To Injury

It happened in Friday night's game, and the tough news came down on Saturday: The Seattle Mariners will be without top run producer Eugenio Suarez for at least 10 days.

It's a small fracture in his right index finger, and Suarez will see a specialist on Monday in Arizona. He remains hopeful that he'll return before the end of the regular season in two weeks.

It was obvious on a swing in the 5th inning on Friday that Suarez had a problem.

This couldn't have come at a worse time for the Mariners, as Suarez has been on fire of late, with 6 HR and 8 RBIs in the last 7 games, batting .308 with a 1.357 OPS.

Overall on the season, the third baseman has an .804 OPS with 31 HR and 84 RBIs. It was all capped off with a thrilling walk-off homer a week ago.

It's also bad timing, as the M's are in a free-for-all battle, jockeying for position in the three-team Wild Card chase with the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays.
