Boston Red Sox Release Pitcher

The Boston Red Sox have released Hirokazu Sawamura. According to Chris Costillo, the 34-year-old reliever asked for this to come to fruition.

Sawamura was recently designated for assignment by the Red Sox and cleared waivers. He appeared in one game for Worcester following the demotion but now has decided to test the free-agent market instead.

Sawamura could end up inking a contract with another team before the end of the season, as his 2022 campaign has been fairly solid for the most part. In 49 games on the year, he had a 1-1 record and 3.73 ERA.

It will be intriguing to see what happens with Sawamura from here, but all we do know is that his time in Boston is officially over.
