Boston Red Sox Designate Pitcher For Assignment

The Boston Red Sox have made a change to their 40-man roster, as Jeurys Familia has been designated for assignment.

Familia began the season with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he had a 1-1 record and 6.09 ERA in 38 appearances. His struggles with the Phillies led the team to release him, and then he went on to sign a minor league deal with the Red Sox. After getting called up to Boston, the veteran continued to struggle, as he had a 1-2 record and 6.10 ERA with the club.

Familia will now be hitting the waiver wire. Teams in need of some bullpen help could take a chance on Familia if they believe the one-time All-Star can bounce back. If he clears, don't be surprised to see the Red Sox release him.
