Arizona Diamondbacks Infielder Elects Free Agency

Earlier this week, the Arizona Diamondbacks designated Wilmer Difo for assignment. Now, the infielder has since cleared waivers, but he will not be staying in Arizona. This is because he has elected to become a free agent instead of accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Reno.

Difo has over three years of MLB experience, so he has the freedom to become a free agent. The 30-year-old's time as a Diamondback ends after just three games, where he went 0-for-6 at the plate. It wasn't a strong showing for the eight-year veteran, but he will now be hoping to find a new home before the year is over.

Teams looking for some infield depth could consider Difo, as he can play shortstop and second base. In 492 career games split between the Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Diamondbacks, he has 19 home runs, 103 RBIs, and a .250 batting average.
