Red Sox Option Starter

Well, that didn't take long.

The Boston Red Sox have optioned starter Josh Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester.

With Brayan Bello, returning from the injured list on Wednesday, there's just not a spot on the roster for him anymore.

Well, that's the nice way to put it.

In reality, Winckowski has just been bad. On Tuesday night, he allowed six earned runs to the Toronto Blue Jays over 2.2 innings of work. That makes it 12 earned runs allowed by Winckowski in his last 7.2 innings. That's not going to cut it in the major leagues.

He'll head back down to the minors, leaving behind an MLB ERA of 5.83, a 1.56 WHIP, and 38 strikeouts over 63 innings.

In the minors this season, the twenty-four year old has been decent, posting a 3.38 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 43 strikeouts across 42 innings of work.

There is definitely potential here with Josh Winckowski, he just does not appear to be quite ready for major league competition yet.
