Rays Place Pitcher on IL; Recall Versatile Pitcher

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed pitcher Ryan Thompson on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 27, with right triceps inflammation. 

Pitcher Ryan Yarbrough has been recalled in a corresponding move. 

The Rays have placed RH Ryan Thompson (right triceps inflammation) on the 15-day IL, retroactive to Aug 27, and recalled LH Ryan Yarbrough from Triple-A Durham.

It has not yet been announced how serious the injury is or how long Thompson will be out for. The thirty-year-old pitcher has posted a 3.80 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 39 strikeouts over 42 innings this season. He's also converted three saves.

Ryan Yarbrough returns to the Rays after being sent down to the minors last weekend.

The thirty-year-old has thrown a pedestrian 4.87 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts across 68 innings of work with the Rays this year. He's started nine of the 16 games he's appeared in this season, adding an extra bit of versatility.
