Orioles Claim German Pitcher Off Waivers from Rays

Just two days after being designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays, he's found a new home.

The Baltimore Orioles have claimed pitcher Phoenix Sanders off waivers from the Rays.

Sanders has appeared in eight games for the Rays in his MLB debut this season, throwing 14.2 innings with a 3.07 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 12 strikeouts.

The twenty-seven year old was a 10th round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2017 MLB Draft.

The German right-handed pitcher has actually been worse at the minor league level this season, posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 36 strikeouts over 30 innings. Of the 25 games he's appeared in, he's started one and converted one save.

Sanders will give the Rays some extra depth at the pitching position.
