Athletics Claim Right-Handed Pitcher

It was a pitcher's worst debut nightmare.

Tyler Cyr was designated for assignment by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, just 24 hours after making his major league debut with them. To be fair, he was bad in his debut, allowing two hits and a run in 0.1 innings of work.
Now he's found a new home with the Oakland Athletics, who have claimed him off waivers.

Deservedly so, for Cyr has had a pretty great season thus far in the minors. In 36 innings pitched with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Cyr has posted a 2.50 ERA, and a 37/18 K/BB ratio.

Perhaps, he'll get a more extended chance this time around with the Athletics. Cyr is a former 10th-round pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2015 MLB Draft.
