MLB Rumors: Former GM Names 3 Teams Competing For Willson Contreras

The trade market for Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras has been taking shape for some time now, and according to former MLB GM Jim Bowden, it was down to four teams in the mix, and that's since been reduced to three.

"The (New York) Mets, (San Diego) Padres, (Houston) Astros and Tampa Bay Rays are all in play for Contreras," writes Bowden, who also suggests that the Padres and Mets, as we've reported recently, are more inclined to try for a 2-for-1 with the Cubs, to obtain reliever David Robertson as well.

The Astros, of course, will now be out, as they've acquired catcher Christian Vazquez from Boston.

Contreras has been hearing he'll be traded for over a year now, and while he loves the Cubs and their fans, he's getting tired of the whole thing.

“I just want this to be over,” the catcher said after Sunday's game, which could very well be his final one with the Cubbies after 7 years.

The 3-time All-Star is hitting .252 this season with an .818 OPS and 14 home runs.
