MLB Rumors: Another Red Sox Star Told He Won't Be Traded

While rumors abound about the Boston Red Sox being sellers leading up to Tuesday's trade deadline, we've now learned that another of their stars will NOT be dealt.

"Once I heard that it was a relief," said Rafael Devers, upon learning a few days ago from chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom that they would not be trading him. "OK, I don't have to worry about that anymore," said Devers. "They came down and spoke to me and said, ‘Whatever you’re hearing outside that’s not true, so we’re not trading you.’"

Devers and the Sox are still notably very far apart on a possible contract extension, with the two-time All-Star due to become a free agent after the 2023 season. And the third baseman has confirmed there are currently no contract talks ongoing.

Team management has also recently told star shortstop Xander Bogaerts that he also would not be traded at the deadline. He can opt out of his contract at season's end and enter free agency in the offseason.
