Diamondbacks Activate Pitcher from Injured List

The Arizona Diamondbacks have activated pitcher Caleb Smith from the 15-day injured list.
Smith returns from the injured list after missing nearly a month due to a fractured right hand. He is a left-handed pitcher so it was not his throwing hand that was injured, which would have made matters worse.

The thirty-one-year-old threw two scoreless innings on Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies, walking two and striking out three.

Smith will likely keep pitching in the middle relief role for the D-Backs during the final stretch of the season.

The former starter turned relief has posted a 4.47 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 49 strikeouts over 50 innings this season.

Smith signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks and has one more year of arbitration eligibility before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2024.
