Athletics Recall Two Players

The Oakland Athletics recalled starter Adrian Martinez and outfielder Cristian Pache from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Martinez was summoned to start against the New York Yankees, a very tough task. However, the twenty-five-year-old more than held his own, allowing three hits, one earned run and two walks while striking out six over five innings. Martinez induced at least three whiffs on all of his pitches, leading to a very strong 29 percent whiff rate.

The rookie right-hander has made six starts in the majors this season, posting a 5.28 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 25 strikeouts over 29 innings. He's scheduled to start against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.

The Athletics have also recalled outfielder Cristian Pache from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Pache takes the place of David MacKinnon on the roster with MacKinnon heading to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Pache has been nothing special in the majors this season, hitting just .158, with two home runs, 13 RBI and one stolen base.

The twenty-three-year-old has been a disappointment in the minors this season as well, slashing .248/.298/.687, with four home runs, 20 RBI and one stolen base over 157 at-bats.
