MLB Rumors: Insider Ken Rosenthal Says Padres "Virtually Certain" To Make Huge Trade

If you're looking for some action as we approach the trade deadline on Tuesday, look no further than the San Diego Padres, says MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal.

Padres GM A.J. Preller "is pursuing a dizzying number of deals and seems virtually certain to make at least one major move before Tuesday’s trade deadline at 6 p.m. ET," notes Rosenthal

Preller is never afraid to make a big trade, and he has been burning up the phone lines looking to give his team the big push it needs down the stretch.

Of course, they are one of the frontrunners for superstar Juan Soto from the Washington Nationals. That's the big prize. But check out the other available players that the Pads are in on:
  • Willson Contreras, catcher, Chicago Cubs
  • Ian Happ, left fielder, Cubs
  • David Robertson, closer, Cubs
  • Frankie Montas, RHP, Oakland A's
  • Sean Murphy, catcher, A's
  • Chad Pinder, OF, A's
And that's just two teams' worth.

Preller has a number of uber-prospects to wave around in order to land a big catch, including shortstop C.J. Abrams and outfielder Robert Hassell III at the top of the list, as well as two elite prospects from the 2021 draft, shortstop Jackson Merrill and outfielder James Wood.

Expect some fireworks from San Diego before Tuesday at 6 Eastern.
