MLB Rumors: Blue Jays Targeting Rockies Pitcher

The Toronto Blue Jays need to really step things up to meet preseason expectations. They're mired in a six or seven-team moshpit slugging it out for three Wild Card spots in the American League.

Step One for the front office was the firing of manager Charlie Montoyo today. Next up, fix the pitching staff. The Jays are desperate for both starters and relievers. And while names like Luis Castillo and Frankie Montas dominate the starting pitcher trade market landscape, one hurler that's flying under the radar is Chad Kuhl of the Colorado Rockies.

"(There's) a lot of interest in him. And the Toronto Blue Jays are one team that are right now looking at Chad Kuhl," opines MLB Insider Jon Morosi.

He says the reasoning is simple. Any pitcher that's able to handle the hitter-happy thin air environment of Denver (Kuhl has a 3.27 ERA at home this season) is hopefully prepared for the offensive tendencies of the Rogers Centre as well.

"They need to know," says Morosi, "can this pitcher get it done in a hitter-friendly environment?"

Kuhl is on an expiring contract, and Morosi thinks he makes a lot of sense in Toronto. "Kuhl to the Blue Jays is one fit that I'll be watching a lot in the weeks to come."

But alas, Jays fans, Morosi does feel that the Los Angeles Dodgers may be targeting Kuhl as well. And if they don't land Castillo, Kuhl will be squarely on their radar as well.
