Diamondbacks Hand Out Huge Bucks To No. 2 Draft Pick

He's certainly got the bloodlines to make for a great major league career. No. 2 overall pick Druw Jones—yes, the son of 5-time All-Star Andruw Jones—has agreed to a record $8.18M signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Per MLB Insider Jon Heyman, the $8.18M is the highest ever for a high schooler at the No. 2 slot, topping the $7.7M the Kansas City Royals handed Bobby Witt Jr.

Druw Jones's father, Andruw, was a 10-time Gold Glover in center field for the Atlanta Braves, and Druw is said to possess the same superior athletic instincts in the outfield.

“Of all the kids with bloodlines and their dads played in the big leagues, he’s as close to his dad as anyone I've ever seen,” said one MLB scout. "This kid plays center field about as good as you can play center field."
