Cardinals Will Be Without Two All-Stars For Series in Toronto

The St. Louis Cardinals will be without three unvaccinated players for a series in Toronto this coming week against the Blue Jays. But they aren't just any players. They'll be missing two All-Stars, including one who's in the mix for MVP.

Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado and Austin Romine will be heading to the restricted list, and will be at home and without pay for the Cards' two-game set at Rogers Centre. U.S./Canada cross-border restrictions, in both directions, require unvaccinated non-resident travelers to quarantine for two weeks upon entry, making those players ineligible to play.

The Cardinals' list of three is nowhere close to their Show Me state cousins, the Kansas City Royals, who had no less than 10 players on the restricted list for their Toronto visit, but you wouldn't have found any Goldschmidts or Arenados on the Royals list.

The 7-time All-Star at first base, Goldschmidt is batting a league-leading .333 with a major league-best .416 on-base and a 1.019 OPS. He has 22 homers and 74 RBIs.

Arenado, third baseman and also a 7-time All-Star, is merely batting .299 with an .897 OPS, along with 18 HR and 59 RBIs.

The catcher, Romine, was recently acquired by the Cards and has only appeared in nine games thus far.
