Blue Jays Sign Pitcher

The Toronto Blue Jays are signing right-handed pitcher Vinny Nittoli, per Robert Murray.

Nittoli signed a minor league deal with the Yankees last winter, but recently opted out of his contract with the team.

The thirty-one year old has posted a 3.44 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 44 strikeouts in 36 innings for Triple-A Wilkes Barre Scranton this season. He also has a 4-1 record on the season.

Since May, however, Nittoli has been phenomenal, throwing a 1.61 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 28 innings in Triple-A.
The Blue Jays are desperate for some bullpen help right now, and Nittoli will almost certainly get a chance to pitch with the team immediately.

The Blue Jays are currently 19th in the MLB in team era, posting a 4.00 ERA on the season, so this won't be the only move the team makes to attempt to improve their pitching in the coming days.

Nittoli got his first taste of major league action last season with the Mariners, pitching just one inning.
