Twins Place Key Bat On IL; Recall Red-Hot Outfielder

The injury bug continues to sting the Minnesota Twins. They've announced today that lower back tightness has forced second baseman Jorge Polanco to the 10-day injured list. To fill his roster spot, they've recalled outfielder Alex Kirilloff.

It's Polanco's first time ever on the major league IL. The good news is that an MRI this week showed no structural concerns, so he should be able to return after the minimum.

The 28-year-old is coming off a 33 HR, 98 RBI season last year, and is thus far hitting .246 with 7 HR and 33 RBIs. Luis Arraez will likely take over second base in his absence.

For Kirilloff, this will be his second stint with the Twins this season. And though he's had all sorts of trouble hitting to his potential at the big league level, he was truly tearing the cover off the ball at Triple-A St. Paul, hitting .385 with a 1.201 OPS, along with 10 home runs with 33 RBIs in just 28 games.

We'll see if that was enough to get his confidence back at the major league level.
