Reds Claim Catcher Off Waivers From Giants

Moving to his third organization of the season, catcher Michael Papierski has been claimed by the Cincinnati Reds off waivers from the San Francisco Giants.

The Reds then optioned Papierski to Triple-A Louisville. He had played in just five games for the Giants, going hitless in 9 at-bats. San Francisco acquired him in the Mauricio Dubon trade with the Houston Astros back in May.

Since starting catcher Tyler Stephenson landed on the injured list with a thumb injury earlier this month, the Reds have been making do with an underwhelming combo of Aramis Garcia and Chris Okey behind the plate.

If Papierski is able to have an impact at Triple-A, he could find his way onto the Cincinnati roster.
