Padres Place Ace on Covid Injured List

The San Diego Padres placed right-handed pitcher Joe Musgrove on the Covid injured list today. It is not yet known whether the pitcher tested positive for the virus or not, or whether he has come into contact with Covid-19. Nevetherless, Musgrove was moved to the Covid injured list this evening.

To replace Musgrove, San Diego called up Reiss Knehr from AAA. Knehr has made just one appearance with the Padres this season and has pitched 4 2/3 innings, throwing 3 strikeouts.

Musgrove last pitched on Thursday and was set to pitch against the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 22nd. Should the starter test positive for the virus, he will see a longer absence and likely miss his next start at very least. This would come as a blow to the Padres.

Musgrove is a National League Cy Young candidate and has a flawless 8-0 record on the season. He's put up a phenomenal 1.59 ERA and 0.92 WHIP, all while tossing 81 strikeouts over 79 innings.
