Padres Lose 2 Players

The San Diego Padres are losing some of their depth, as Shogo Akiyama and Ian Krol have opted out of their minor league contracts.

The Padres signed Akiyama to a minor league deal after he was released by the Reds. The 34-year-old has since been very solid in Triple-A, as he has three home runs, 21 RBIs, and a .343 batting average. That didn't get him a call-up, though, so it makes sense that he will be testing the market again as a free agent.

Krol has appeared in 24 Triple-A games this season, and it's fair to say he has struggled. During them, he sports a 1-1 record and a very high 7.46 ERA. The 243-game veteran will be hoping to get another crack in the majors elsewhere from here.
