Padres And Athletics Complete Huge Trade

The winner of the Sean Manaea sweepstakes has officially been confirmed. The Oakland Athletics have reportedly informed the 30-year-old that he has been traded to the San Diego Padres.

San Diego also has acquired prospect Aaron Holiday in the move. To land these two players, they parted ways with Euribiel Angeles and Adrian Martinez.

Manaea has been linked to several teams, so it was hard to determine where he would end up. Yet, with Oakland already trading Matt Chapman, Matt Olson, and Chris Bassitt before him, it was apparent that his time with the organization was coming to a close. Now we know that he is heading to SD.

This move gives the Padres another very good pitcher in their rotation. In 32 games last season with the Athletics, Manaea had an 11-10 record and 3.91 ERA. Overall, he should work well in the middle of their rotation.

The Athletics are getting two solid prospects in Angeles and Martinez. The former just spent the 2021 season in Single-A, where he had four home runs, 64 RBIs, and an impressive .329 batting average. The latter, on the other hand, just had a very solid season himself. In 26 appearances between Double-A and Triple-A, he sported an 8-5 record and 3.38 ERA.
