White Sox Sign Outfielder

The Chicago White Sox are staying busy, as they have signed Mark Payton to a minor league contract. He also will be with the major team at Spring Training.

Payton played in 24 games last season with the Cincinnati Reds, where he had zero home runs and a .182 batting average. It's safe to say that he didn't have much success at the plate with the Reds in 2021, but he will now be looking to change that this season with the White Sox. Yet, the 30-year-old outfielder will first need to make the roster before having the chance to.

In 32 career games with the Reds over two seasons, Payton sported a .175 batting average. It will be intriguing to see if he is able to improve upon these numbers from here.

Payton spent the majority of last season in Triple-A, however. In 75 total games on the year, he had eight home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .293 batting average. With numbers like these, it is safe to say that he has the potential to be a threat at the plate. However, that just hasn't happened at the major league level yet.
