Top 5 Free Agents Available When Market Opens Over Next Few Days

Now that baseball is open for business once again after a 99-day lockout, the transactions will start to come fast and furious, as early as tomorrow. Time for a refresher course on the top free agents still available.

Freddie Freeman

Fresh off winning the World Series, the Atlanta Braves legend was expected to re-sign with the only team he's known soon after the season. However, that hasn't happened, and now the word is that he's more likely to leave than stay.

Top teams in the chase for Freeman include the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays.

Carlos Correa

The Scott Boras client is expected to try to beat fellow free agent shortstop Corey Seager's $325M deal signed with the Texas Rangers before the lockout. Do his former team, the Houston Astros, still have a chance to retain him?

Trevor Story

The free agent Colorado Rockies shortstop racked up some big numbers in his six years in the Mile High city. He has said he's not interested in changing positions, which could affect where he lands. There are a number of teams interested in Story, but some of them (eg. Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners) already have entrenched starters at short.

Kris Bryant

The outfielder/infielder spent the second half of the 2021 season with the San Francisco Giants, but the word is they're not interested in bringing him back. There are a number of teams that could use his versatility at 1B, 3B and OF, the New York Mets being near the top of the list.

Nick Castellanos

Another Boras client, he's looking to cash in big-time from his career season in Cincinnati in 2021.

Let the bidding begin.
