San Diego Padres Sign Infielder

The San Diego Padres have signed Mitch Walding to a minor league contract.

Walding last appeared at the major league level with the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2019 campaign. In 15 games over two seasons with the team, he had one home run, two RBIs, and a .053 batting average. Needless to say, he certainly struggled at the plate, but now he will be looking to change that if given the chance to join the Padres.

Although Walding is primarily a third baseman, he recently noted that he is willing to make the switch to catcher if it helps his chances of making the majors again. This is a very interesting development, so the 29-year-old could be entering this season at that position instead.

Nevertheless, the Padres have added to their depth with this minor league signing. Walding has had some success in the minors over the last few seasons, so that very well could help his chances of becoming a major leaguer again.
