Reds To Start Season Without 2 Pitchers

The Cincinnati Reds are expected to be without Luis Castillo and Mike Minor for the beginning of the 2022 season.

Castillo is currently dealing with shoulder pain, so there's a very good chance that he will spend the beginning of the season on the injured list. However, if he can make serious progress with his healing before Opening Day, perhaps he could have a start during the first week of the new campaign. However, at this time, that seems less than likely.

In 33 appearances last season, Castillo had an 8-16 record, 3.98 ERA, and 192 strikeouts. He was a major name in the rumor mill during the offseason, but the team has now committed to keeping him for at least the beginning portions of the season.

Minor was added by the Reds this offseason and will be looking to bounce back from a rough 2021 season with the Royals. In 28 starts, he had an 8-12 record and 5.05 ERA. Yet, the beginning of his season is expected to be put on pause, as he's having issues with his shoulder, too.
