Marlins Claim Pitcher Off Waivers

The Miami Marlins have claimed Tommy Nance off of waivers from the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs elected to designate Nance for assignment late last week, but now the 31-year-old has a new home with the Marlins. With them, he will be looking to put together a strong campaign and cement himself a permanent spot on their major league roster.

Nance pitched his first season in the majors last year with Chicago. In 27 appearances, he had a 1-1 record, 7.22 ERA, and 30 strikeouts. Overall, it is absolutely fair to state that he struggled in 2021. However, the new year offers a clean slate, so perhaps he will be able to put together a good year for the Marlins in 2022.

For the Marlins to make room for Nance on their roster, Yoan Lopez has been designated for assignment.
