Mets Claim Pitcher Off Waivers

The New York Mets have claimed Yoan Lopez off waivers from the Miami Marlins.

Although Lopez was a member of the Marlins' roster, he never actually appeared in a game for them. Instead, the 29-year-old played 13 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season. In them, he sported a 0-0 record and 6.57 ERA. He will be aiming to not only cement himself a permanent spot on New York's roster but also be far more reliable this time around.

There's certainly nothing wrong with the Mets taking a chance on Lopez. He showed during the 2019 season that he has the potential to be a solid reliever, as he had a 3.41 ERA in 70 total games. Since then, he hasn't been able to replicate that, however.

In 113 career games all with the Diamondbacks, Lopez had a 2-8 record, 4.25 ERA, and 82 strikeouts. It will be interesting to see if he can impress the club during Spring Training and earn himself a spot in their bullpen.
