Cardinals Ace Provides Update On His Injury; "It's Frustrating"

St. Louis Cardinals ace pitcher Jack Flaherty has taken it upon himself to clarify the situation with his shoulder injury, indicating the team got some information incorrect when detailing his status this week. Flaherty says he received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection for bursitis—not a labrum tear as the Cardinals had reported.

Flaherty says the inflammation is a result of mechanical changes he made while recovering from an oblique strain that cost him two months of the 2021 season. He says he's pitched with the labrum tear for "a handful of years." He attributes the crossed-wires with the team to the lack of communication during the lockout.

Shutting it down for two weeks

As for the new bursitis problem, the 26-year-old right-hander says he won't be throwing for two weeks, and will revisit it after that.

"It's frustrating. You want to be out there with the team," Flaherty told the media. "Everybody put in their work over the lockout, myself included, to be ready to go. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen."

He says he hopes to be back "after this little beginning part of the season."
