MLB Rumors: Cardinals Interested In First Baseman

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis Cardinals are interested in Colin Moran.

Moran was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates before the lockout began after the team re-signed Yoshi Tsutsugo. Once it ends, the Cardinals will likely not be the only team aiming to sign him to a contract. He's a solid major league player because he offers a bit of everything.

With St. Louis having Paul Goldschmidt, Moran obviously wouldn't be competing with the All-Star for the starting first baseman job. However, with the NL soon to have the DH rule, he could be an intriguing option for that role. Furthermore, due to the fact that he also can play third base, he could be a very solid platoon player if needed, too.

In 99 games last season with the Pirates, Moran had 10 home runs, 50 RBIs, and a .258 batting average. Overall, he wasn't dominant, but he certainly did have some decent moments during the campaign. As a result of this, he shouldn't have much trouble finding a new home from here.

In 460 career games between the Houston Astros and Pirates, Moran has 45 home runs, 216 RBIs, and a .267 batting average. It will be interesting to see if St. Louis becomes his third-ever team.
