MLB Rumors: Oakland A's Hire New Bench Coach

The Oakland A's are reportedly ready to announce the hiring of a new bench coach and word is Brad Ausmus is the man picked for the job. The former big-league player and manager will be formally announced once the A's are operating as a ball club.

The lockout has put a halt to the press conference but expectation is the hiring has been made behind the scenes. Ausmus will join Mark Kotsay as the new guys in town as Kotsay was recently hired as the team's new manager. Long-time skipper Bob Melvin is now managing the San Diego Padres after a lengthy tenure in Oakland.

As for Ausmus he was a gamer and his work ethic kept him in the league for 18 MLB seasons. He's since started his post-playing career as a manager/coach and he's already been hired in Detroit with the Tiger and the Los Angeles Angels.

Some thought he would be heading to manage the New York Mets after a good round of interviews but the Mets decided Buck Showalter was their man. The A's thank the Mets for their decision making.

Meanwhile others have other opinions of Ausmus.....
