Arizona Diamondbacks Sign Catcher

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed catcher Juan Centeno to a minor league contract. Because it is a minor league deal, he was permitted to sign it during the lockout.

Centeno will be looking to fight his way onto the major league club from here. He last played in the majors during the 2019 season with the Boston Red Sox. During that season, he had zero home runs, two RBIs, and a .133 batting average in seven games. Although it's been a while, it does seem possible that he could make Arizona's roster this spring. They are in the middle of a rebuild, of course.

In 118 career games over seven seasons between the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and Red Sox, he has six home runs, 37 RBIs, and a .223 batting average. With that, he also was a part of the Astros' 2017 World Series championship team.

Even if Centeno doesn't make the major league roster, there's no harm in signing him to a deal. He has a lot of overall experience, so why not take a chance on him?
