3 First Basemen The Braves Could Target If Freddie Freeman Walks

When the lockout is over, the Atlanta Braves have the monstrous task of re-signing Freddie Freeman. Although it does seem more likely than not that he will stay, nothing is definite until the star signs that contract. If he is lured away from Atlanta with a bigger deal elsewhere, the Braves will have to act quickly to get his replacement. Let's take a look at three potential options.

Matt Olson: If Freeman walks, the Braves will have to jump into the Matt Olson sweepstakes, right? The Athletics are shopping all of their top veterans and Olson of course fits that. He is coming off of his first All-Star season, too. In 156 games, he had 39 home runs, 111 RBIs and a .271 batting average. Yet, after a season like this one, the Braves would have to give a lot to acquire him.

Anthony Rizzo: Anthony Rizzo could be a solid consolation prize for the Braves. He is a three-time All-Star and World Series champion who provides solid power from the plate. In 141 games between the Cubs and Yankees last season, he had 22 home runs, 61 RBIs and a .248 batting average. It was a down year for his standards, but he still was productive at the same time. He could be a good short-term option for them if the unthinkable with Freeman happens.

Colin Moran: Colin Moran is an interesting name on the free agent market. The Pirates surprisingly released him at the start of the offseason, but he had a decent year. In 99 games, he had 10 home runs, 50 RBIs and a .258 batting average. He did cool off noticeably at the end of the year, but he was excellent during the first half. Perhaps he's a bounce back candidate worth exploring.
