Veteran Infielder Freddy Galvis Leaving MLB

It appears Freddy Galvis is leaving the MLB. The veteran infielder who is a beloved teammate of many is heading to continue his baseball career in Japan.

According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Galvis is finalizing a deal with Fukuoka Softbank Hawks and there's potential it's longer than a one year deal. Last season in the majors, Galvis split time between the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies.

The 32-year-old appeared in 104 total games in 2021, slashing a combined 242./.302/.407 which included a reasonable 14 home runs, 15 doubles and 40 runs batted in. Galvis has spent 10 seasons in the majors and is added to a long list of players who have taken their talents overseas near the back end of their career.

The Pacific League in Japan is one of the best baseball leagues in the world and they play a 122 game schedule. The Hawks went 60-62 last season. As for Galvis, his decade long MLB career spanned with the Phillies, Orioles, San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays and Cincinnati Reds.
