MLB Rumors: Buck Showalter One Step Closer To Mets' Managerial Job

The New York Mets' managerial search is entering the 2nd round of interviews. And if reports are accurate, the leading candidate Buck Showalter left the Mets "pretty impressed" after his first interview.

After their last two managers were rookies at the job, there are many who feel that a steady, veteran leader like the 65-year-old Showalter is what the team needs. “I know that he’s got great leadership in the clubhouse, he’s a no-nonsense guy," former manager Terry Collins told The Post. "‘The game is meant to be played a certain way and we’re going to go play it that way.’ And it might be time for that kind of attitude here.”

Rumors are already circulating that not only Mets owner Steve Cohen, but also the team's new clubhouse leader are both favoring Showalter for the job.

Second interviews are about to begin, with Cohen expected to get personally involved for this round.

Industry sources do indicate that the list still stands at six, however, with Dodgers bench coach Bob Geren, Astros bench coach Joe Espada, Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro and former Tigers/Angels manager Brad Ausmus having also had first interviews.
