"They Need To Clean House!!": Fired Mets Hitting Coach Rips Organization

The New York Mets fired hitting coach Chili Davis back in May, but his contract ran until Oct. 31st. Now that the shackles are off, Davis has let it rip, going all scorched earth on the team.

"If the process doesn't produce positive or good results, then the process is worthless," said Davis, in an interview with the New York Post. "That organization needs a big turnaround, they need to clean house,” he continued. “Some of the people that have been there so long during those dismal years, they need to bring some fresh faces and baseball people in there."

Davis also confirmed what many believed, that the analytics department was running things. Sometimes even delivering the lineup card to manager Luis Rojas (who was relieved of his duties at season's end).

“I look at analytics as information," said Davis. "It could be good information, but am I going to coach solely with analytics? No. Because numbers and computers and machines have a place, but when you are dealing with human beings and you are a hitting coach or pitching coach or any kind of coach, you have to deal with personalities, you have to deal with emotions sometimes. You have to deal with some guys’ psyche. I am saying that as a former player.”

As a former player, Chili Davis knows whereof he speaks. The now 61-year-old had a 19-year major league career, slugging 350 home runs.

This is just the latest in the Mets' off-season of turmoil. Stories of player scraps have come to light, and the team has struggled to find someone—anyone—to take their GM job. So far 11 candidates have turned them down
