Seattle Mariners Acquire All-Star From San Diego Padres

The Seattle Mariners have acquired second baseman Adam Frazier from the San Diego Padres in exchange for reliever Ray Kerr and outfielder Corey Rosier.

Frazier started the 2021 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and was spectacular. In 98 games, he had four home runs, 32 RBIs and an impressive .324 batting average. Due to his excellent play, he also appeared in his first All-Star game. Yet, when he was dealt to the Padres, he did cool off a bit. In 57 games, he had one home runs, 11 RBIs and a .267 batting average.

Perhaps the fit just wasn't there for Frazier in San Diego, but now he has a chance to get back on track with the Mariners. The Mariners are looking to build off of their 90-72 record and he will likely not be their only addition because of this. He is a very solid utility player to have, too, as he not only plays second base, but also outfield if needed.

Kerr is an exciting prospect for the Padres to add, as he's a hard-throwing reliever who can hit 100 MPH with his fastball. During the 2021 season, he split his time in Double-A and Triple-A. In 36 games between both leagues, he had a 2-1 record, 3.18 ERA and 60 strikeouts. He could be a player who is MLB ready in the near future.

Rosier just played his first season in the minors and did quite well in Single-A. In 121 at bats, he had a .380 batting average, three home runs and 23 RBIs. He also had 13 stolen bases, too. He's a project for sure, but he could surprise a lot of people later down the road.
